Here’s How You Can Celebrate a Worthwhile Fourth of July 2014
When it comes to watching the best fireworks display, Uncle Sam has a lot to offer from a number of places like Boston, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco and many others. Celebrating the Fourth is meant to be a worthwhile experience of the state’s independence. If you don’t have any idea how to make your Fourth of July memorable and you happen to be in the county, here are some cool ideas where you can start.
If you feel like you don’t have a patriotic bone in your body, visiting this New England city will surely make you patriotic even if you don’t feel like it. The celebration starts with the Declaration of Independence read aloud from the balcony of the Old State House, one of Boston’s most historic landmarks, followed by a parade, a live concert on the bank of Charles River, and a parade of the world’s oldest commissioned floating warship built in 1797 in its turnaround sail in Boston Harbour, the USS Constitution formerly known as Old Ironsides. A whole week after the Fourth, a party is hosted in Boston called “Harborfest”.
Celebrate in Florida
A family celebration of July Fourth sounds very good and Florida’s Disney-town Celebration’s Sci-Fi Fourth of July theme is indeed the perfect choice for every family. There’s live music, costume contests with this year’s movie theme: Sci-Fi, face painting, and KidZone games for the kids. For moms and dads, couples and singles, there are plenty of boutiques to shop, food stalls and restaurants to dine in, and a finale of spectacular fireworks to look forward to.
Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine, Maryland
During the battle of Baltimore in the 1812 War where Britons invaded the fort, Francis Scott Key took inspiration to write the national anthem in today’s Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine. The poem that was set to music became the American national anthem in 1931. Celebrate your Fourth of July here with a touch of history. Enjoy the toasting, food tasting, canon firing, as well as the reading of the Declaration of Independence
Mount Rushmore National Memorial, South Dakota
You can’t expect must-see fireworks within the premises of Mount Rushmore but do expect the four presidents carved into stones to come alive as professional actors pose as Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Roosevelt. Aside from “the Presidents” who will be open to interviews, pictures, and surely a lot of autographs, lots of music and children entertainers will be present to complete the mountainside attendance.
National Mall and Memorial, Washington, DC
If Mount Rushmore lacks the fireworks, the National Mall and Memorial promise them to be big, colorful, plenty, and loud. Celebrate Uncle Sam’s 238th independence with one of the best fireworks display and a concert celebration afterwards.
New York City, New York
If you want the most spectacular pyrotechnics in the country, seeing Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks display will surely be a good thing. Head to the Hudson River in Manhattan if you want the best views or simply join Nathan’s most famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest out on Coney Island in Brooklyn.
Visit the place where the Declaration of Independence was first read with the symbolic tapping of the Liberty Bell summoning America’s citizens to listen in 1776. Enjoy this year’s celebration as it honors the 150th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation as well as the 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Movement. Later if you have more time to spare, drop by Benjamin Franklin Parkway to take part in one of the largest free concerts and fireworks display at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
San Francisco, California
A waterfront festival to celebrate Fourth of July surely has its appeal. Enjoy live entertainment. Choose from a variety of foods from food stalls on the waterfront and lounge over San Francisco bay as the night sky burns bright with colors from spectacular fireworks display.
