7 Habits of Happy People
Happiness is a habit. It’s never a chance. It’s always a choice on your part whether you want to be happy or be dragged down by things that are stressing and despairing. So why do some people find it easy to smile amidst problems? Why do some people find it easy to feel good with anything? I think the answer can be a long list of sorts. But again as I have said, happiness is a habit. And habits are ways that we can easily conform to.
#1. Learn to let go and move on. Grudges should never be something you nurse within your heart. Holding grudges against someone or reliving a past with so much hurt may be why you never find the happiness you wish for yourself. Let go. Move on. You’ll find that once you let go of the negativity, there’ll be more space in your heart to feel good and be positive.
#2. Take your problems as challenges. Every day, people in the world have to face problems. You’re no different. Some people find it hard to deal with problems because they think of it in a negative light and even equate it with the word “impossible”. But don’t lose heart; even the word “impossible” says that “I’m possible”. Besides, overcoming your problems make you stronger. Instead of looking at it as something negative, take your problems as a challenge and rise above it to become better.
#3. Be grateful for what you have. If you can be thankful for the little that you have then you can easily find the power to feel positive about anything. Gratefulness has been linked to better physical health, happier moods, better optimism and even a greater ability to be able to cope with stress.
#4. Do what you love and you’ll love what you do. I think Confucius said something like “choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life”. It’s encouraging really when you think of all the problems and stress that comes with working. But doing something you love is a guarantee that no matter what, you’ll still find the energy to work out those problems. Besides, having a job you love is enough motivation to get yourself working in high spirits.
#5. Impart a little bit of kindness every day. Kindness is contagious. But more than that, kindness makes you happier too. When you do a kind thing to other people, your brain produces feel-good hormones that help you build positive feelings as well as connect well with other people. Make your everyday better by doing a kind thing however big or small the gesture is.
#6. Love yourself. Happy people eat healthy, exercise regularly, sleep well and take time off when things get too rough and a time for relaxation is needed. Do the same thing and you’ll find yourself happier. Besides, it’s obvious that stressed people either lose sleep or get too much of it. Sometimes, a bit of emotional eating and lack of exercise is thrown in too. Bad habits are never healthy. They don’t even make you any happier. So do the opposite. Love yourself by being healthy.
#7. Smile. Too cliché I know but it’s true that your smile is one of your best assets to happiness. Besides, what better way to show everyone you’re happy and share that happiness? Smile often. Laugh hard. Doing so is free anyway. Wear your best smile every day and the world around you will smile back too.
